King, Queen & Jack of Yokohama

Today we will visit one of Yokohama's most famous tourist attractions, "Yokohama's Three Pagodas". Each building is available to visit as a museum, so take some time and check three of Yokohama's most famous architectural landmarks!1. King's Tower (Kanagawa Prefectural Government Main Building)The majestic figure towering majestically over Minato Mirai, where Japanese culture and Western-style architecture are interwoven, is a sight to behold. The building was built in 1928 in the Imperial Crown style. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a master of modern architecture, and features geometric decorative patterns. The entranceway has a solemn atmosphere with the words "Kanagawa Prefectural Office" written on it.Google Map > https://goo.gl/maps/r6WeF5DQ2yStfM6d8

2. Queen's Tower (Yokohama Customs) The exotic Islamic temple-style dome of the tower rises majestically in Minato Mirai, exuding a dignity that lives up to its name of "Queen. The Queen's Tower (Yokohama Customs) was built in 1934 in a mixture of Western architectural styles, including Romanesque. The exterior was designed by Tori Yoshitake, who is considered the actual designer of the Diet Building, and the interior was designed by Shimomoto Ren, who designed the Prime Minister's official residence. Unfortunately, there are few drawings and documents of the architectural design from the time of its founding, so the origin of the building is unknown.Google Map > https://goo.gl/maps/w4jedMC6baY6Botd6

3. Jack's Tower (Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall) Built with donations from Yokohama citizens, Jack's Tower is the eldest of the "Three Towers of Yokohama", which are well known and loved by the citizens. The design of Jack's Tower (Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall) was the result of a competition among Shigeyoshi Fukuda, Yoshitoki Nishimura, and Akira Fujimura, and the building, a mixture of red brick and granite, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the opening of the port of Yokohama and is a National Important Cultural Property. With a clock tower at the southeast corner, an octagonal dome at the southwest corner, and a square dome at the northwest corner, this installation is said to reach a design milestone in red-brick architecture.Google Map > https://goo.gl/maps/LKRMNSwW5gp2seJv7

Famous Local "Omiyage" Souvenirs

Yokohama has so many great choices for souvenirs. To help guide you, here are 3 suggestions that you can’t go wrong with. 1. Yokohama BeerYokohama Beer has been brewing some of the region’s best beer from its small brewpub in the heart of the city for 20 years. While this is most decidedly craft beer, it’s less experimental and more true to traditional styles–casual drinkers certainly won’t be offended while beer geeks should find plenty to like.Instagram > https://www.instagram.com/yokohamabeer/

2. 045 BagsA sturdy, hand-crafted bag will last you for years and be a constant reminder of the city where it came from. Few bags are as sturdy as the ones made by 045 Corporation because their materials are cut from the same canvas used in making sails for boats. 045 is the area code for Yokohama and a fitting way to brand them. The best place to get them is the small studio near World Porters shopping mall where they make them in-shop.Facebook > https://www.facebook.com/045-Yokohama-Canvas-Bag-%E6%A8%AA%E6%BF%B1%E5%B8%86%E5%B8%83%E9%9E%84-340021472695509/

3. Ariake Harbour SweetsJapanese sweets are generally known for not being overly rich and sweet, and the treats made by Ariake Harbor fit that character. They’ll satisfy your sweet tooth craving but are not cloying–you may even find yourself guiltily reaching for another. The flagship ‘cake’ is roughly shaped like the hull of a ship and fits in your palm. The chewy, sponge-cake hull is filled with a marron (chestnut) paste.

There’s a flagship store not far from Kannai Station with all their goods available.Google Map > https://goo.gl/maps/bzf7nFZ8hrgdSAHh6

Dream Drive - Building, selling, and renting campervans.

“Whenever I recall and share childhood stories from growing up in the UK and Australia, they almost always begin with a road trip. I had to ask myself “why? why do most of my most memorable childhood stories begin with a journey, and why have I not been making these memories here in Japan? While working in an office in Tokyo for about 10 years, I came to the realization that many Japanese are traveling and experiencing RV road trips abroad in the United States, Australia, Europe, etc. but not doing so in their own country. Japan is in my opinion one of, if not the best country for free-spirited road trip travel as the roads are safe and there are thousands of clean toilets and onsen all throughout the country. My dream with starting this company was to not only build great campervans but also help put Japan on the global map as a top road trip destination.”
