Kannai Area City Hall & Entertainment Resort Construction Begins

Kannai area is set for a giant renewal as contructions begins on the new City Hall & Entertainment ResortThe project, which will preserve the administrative building of the former Yokohama City Hall and utilize it as an urban hotel and commercial facility, and construct a 33-story tower in the area surrounding the former council building, is scheduled for completion and opening in December 2025, with a grand opening in the spring of 2026. The former City Hall administration building will be rehabilitated as an urban hotel brand "OMO7 by Hoshino Resort" (tentative name), the first of its kind in Yokohama City, and as a commercial facility.

The facility will be directly connected to Yokohama Stadium and Yokohama Park via a connecting deck. In front of the south exit ticket gates of JR Kannai Station, Japan's first permanent live viewing arena of approximately 3,000 square meters will be installed. Equipped with a large screen and high-performance audio equipment, it will create a new entertainment space and experience where visitors can enjoy live viewing of various sports events, as well as music and food and beverage together. The tower building will house offices, a university, a new industry creation center, edutainment facilities, and commercial facilities. The tower building's third to fifth floors will house a 6,800-square-meter edutainment facility consisting of three floors. The 6th to 8th floors will house the Wellness Center, a new industry creation center. The office floors on the 11th through 33rd floors of the tower tower, overlooking Yokohama Port, Yokohama Park and Yokohama Stadium, will be one of the largest "eco-friendly offices" in the Kannai area, where a university will also be located. In the Sky Lobby on the 11th floor, there will be a lounge to promote interaction among office workers beyond the boundaries of the company and to stimulate the creation of innovation. In the Kannai Ekimae Minatomachi District, adjacent to the former Yokohama City Hall, the "Kannai Ekimae Minatomachi District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project" is planned to create a 150-meter-high skyscraper complex with commercial facilities, offices, campus, condominiums, and other facilities.

Yokohamabashi Old School Shopping Street

Located near the Yokohama Municipal Subway's Bando-bashi Station, Yokohama-bashi Dori-tenkai retains the atmosphere of a good old-fashioned shopping street. Yokohama-bashi Dori-tenkai started as a community-based shopping street before World War II, and soon after the war, the Yokohama-bashi Dori-tenkai Commercial Association was established, which continues to this day. The 350-meter-long arcade is lined with about 130 stores, including grocery stores, butcher shops, fish shops, and delicatessen shops. The shops are filled with good, inexpensive goods, a human touch, and a pleasant place to spend time shopping. It is fun just to walk around and look at the various things that surround the shopping arcade, such as the tastefully aged stores, the ingenious product displays at each store, and the alleyways that retain a strong Showa-era atmosphere.
